Wolf Conflict Mitigation Program

A herd of black cows grazing in a green field with mountains in the background.

Under ECCD's program, reimbursable activities will include:

Carcass Disposal - (CDA "Best" Practice) Hauling a carcass offsite to a local landfill or established compost facility to limit wolf attractants

  • $35/hour (up to $300/disposal) + $0.70/mile (to/from disposal facility) + landfill disposal cost

Carcass Burial - (CDA "Better" Practice) Burying a carcass away from livestock in a pre-existing carcass/bone pile can help reduce conflict risk

  • $35/hour (up to $300/burial)

Carcass Exclosure - (CDA "Good/Better" Practice) In instances where burial is not feasible, electric mesh fencing should be used to secure a carcass and limit wolf attractants

  • Up to $400 for the purchase of electric mesh fence kit
  • $2.40/foot for installed fence (if using previously purchased materials)

Range Rider Training - When available, producers may be reimbursed for costs associated with range rider training

  • $35/hour + $0.70/mile (to/from training facility)

Range Rider Activity - Producers may be reimbursed for costs associated with range rider activities

  • $30/hour

Technology - For improved livestock documentation practices, hardware, software, and/or mobile application purchases may be reimbursed

  • Hardware/Software/Mobile Applications: Cost-share 80% up to $350/applicant
